Important Update for Members Accessing Care in Iraq and Afghanistan

Aetna Global Benefits(AGB) is committed to building strong  and secure partnerships with health care facilities around the world in order  to promote access to quality care for our members. As part of our  concierge-level service approach, we remain focused on keeping our valued  constituents informed on any noteworthy news that may affect the level and  quality of care our members receive while on assignment.

It has come to our attention that AGB members located in Iraq and/or Afghanistan are beginning to experience changes to the level of care currently received and administered at United States military bases. These military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan are decreasing the level of care provided to non-military individuals, which includes contractors amongst others. Services provided at these facilities will now solely comprise of life/limb-threatening care.

However, please note that AGB members can still access care for  their non-critical health care needs at the following facilities located in and  around Iraq and Afghanistan.

Baghdad Medical Clinic

• Currently maintain a direct settlement arrangement with AGB; operated by Blackwater Worldwide
• Location: Next to IZ Liqueur Store and Soccer Field, International Zone, Baghdad, Iraq 
• Services: routine health care, including lab testing, x-rays and prescriptions
• Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and after-hour care is available for emergencies

MediCorp Iraq - VBC Medical Center

• In discussions currently to form a direct settlement arrangement with AGB; facility currently accepts cash, Visa and American Express   
• Location: U.S. Military Base Camp VBC, West Liberty, Baghdad, Iraq (opposite the KBR "Fisher" fuel point)
• Services: wide range of health care and lab services (including pharmacy, radiology and dental), ambulance services and transport, and MediVac services
• Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and after-hour care is available for emergencies

Tangiers International

  >Baghdad  International Airport, Camp Victory (minor medical injuries)

• The facility may no longer accept direct billing due to resources, but will continue to accept cash or credit card             
• Location: Darulaman Road, Near Darulaman Palace, Kabul, Afghanistan
• Services: wide range of clinical services and facilities, including an intensive care unit
• Hours of operation are 24 hours/7 days a week

DK German Medical Diagnostic Center

• In discussions currently to form a direct settlement arrangement
• Location: Street 66, House 138, District 4, Zone 1, Kabul, Afghanistan
• Services: select clinical services and facilities, including allergy and immunology, general medicine, infectious disease management, outpatient pharmacy, ultrasound and x-ray 
• Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (closed on Fridays

For facilities not yet able to bill AGB directly, members  may pay for the services and submit them for reimbursement, in accordance with  the terms and provisions of their plan. Access the AGB claim form.           

Please note that we will continue to coordinate medically  necessary evacuations and transportations as appropriate, apart from situations  handled under the DBA. We  will also continue to provide any and all updates on the status of our direct settlement agreements and overall facility updates in this region as they occur.
